The mechanisms of formation of a special heterogeneous state associated with the release of a significant amount of an additional tribophase (copper phase) in gray cast irons during crystallization have been established. The principles of heat treatment of high-copper cast irons have been developed to create wear-resistant cast composite materials with a wide range of functional properties. The results of the work allow predicting effective ways of forming the necessary properties of parts of tribological systems. According to the results of the work, the composition of the material for obtaining products, the main functional purpose of which is work in sliding friction units, is proposed. At the same time, practical recommendations for the processing of alloys have been developed. The use of progressive processing methods makes it possible to expand the range of use of high-copper cast irons. For heat-resistant steels (10Kh11N23TMR, KhN73MBTYu), the activation of carbon diffusion processes and the interaction of fuel combustion products with the metal surface were established, which leads to the formation of carbide colonies and ferrite crystals, as well as partial recrystallization of the structure in the surface layer of these materials, with the formation of a sigma phase. It has been established that up to 50…60% of secondary phases are isolated in the structure. And subsequent heat treatment leads to rounding of the particles of these phases and a decrease in their volume. This heat treatment has a significant effect on the mechanical properties compared to the delivered condition.
