The work purpose is technology improvement of insulating refractory products of group 160 with an apparent density ≤ 1,3 g/cm3. The research methods are chemical, petrographic, physico-mechanical, thermo-mechanical and x-ray diffraction ones. The possibility of using 3, 5 and 10 % cleaning of the electric arc furnace filters formed during the melting of corundum and mullite, or calcium hexaaluminate fraction less than 0.5 mm in the samples of refractory insulating products of group 160 with an apparent density ≤ 1.3 g/cm3, as well as the effect on their properties and phase composition were studied. The expediency of using 5 % cleaning of electric arc furnace filters or 5—10 % calcium hexaaluminate fraction less than 0.5 mm was established. Petrographic and X-ray diffraction studies of the phase composition of light weight samples from all compositions after firing at 1580 С showed that they are characterized by microporous and fine-crystalline structure with a similar phase composition, which is present in the predominant amount of CA6 (~ 80 %) and subordinate α Al2O3 in the different ratio of these phases. The largest percentage of phase CA6 is in the samples when using of calcium hexaaluminate fraction less than 0.5 mm. The technology of refractory insulating products of group 160 with an apparent density ≤ 1,3 g/cm3 has been improved and the raw material for its production was expanded. The pilot batches of refractory insulating products of group 160 with an apparent density ≤ 1,3 g/cm3 in the form of briquettes for insulating concrete grains, which characterized by high properties, were manufactured and transferred to consumers for testing.
