P. Semenenko Institute of geochemistry, mineralogy and ore formation popup.description2 The conducted research shows the efficacy of complex investigation of iron minerals and ores by X-Ray, microprobe methods, as well as magnetic and thermomagnetic methods. It was shown that the most effective transformation of hematite to magnetite by carbon monoxide occurs at temperatures 500-700 oC during 40 minutes. Significant quantity of quite rare iron minerals - minesotaite (Fe-talc), grinalite (Fe-serpentine) and stylepnomelan (Fe-laminated silicate) was discovered for the first time in the magnetite quartzite of Kremenchug iron ore basin. Moreover, two radiometrically different quartz crystals and at least two types of magnetite of different oxidation grade - from magneto-maghemite to martite - was discovered for the first time in above mentioned ores. It was shown, that after the first dry magnetic separation the less oxidised magnetite remains in concentrate, while more oxidised magnetite gets to the waste, that could help to determine the quality of iron ores during their preparation for enrichment.
