The existence of the connection between the current border issues and the basic trends in the development of international relations has been proved. The main preconditions and regularities that determine the successful development of cooperation between neighboring regions of different countries and provide for the achievement of convincing positive results have been clarified.It has been established that the direct negative consequence of modern world processes has been the growth of global instability, an increase in the number of interstate conflicts, often provoked from outside, which usually occur in the border area on the basis of mutual claims to disputed territories. It has been shown that the settlement of border disputes with the help of international law is becoming increasingly difficult today, both due to the long-standing origins of these mutual misunderstandings and the growing legal nihilism. It is proved that an important prerequisite for the successful resolution of any border conflicts is the dynamic socio-economic and technological development of countries inhabited by national minorities, and their involvement in joint geopolitical and geoeconomic projects.
