V. Pisarzhevskii Institute Of Physical Chemistry of The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2  A series of samples of MWW zeolites with adjustable textural characteristics and different Si/Al ratios (12 – 35) was synthesized and the catalytic properties in the cascade, environmentally friendly Prins–Friedel–Crafts reaction between aldehyde (butanal or benzaldehyde), 3-butene-1-ol and anisole were investigated (the selectivity towards the desired products with 4-aryltetrahydropyran fragments is 73 – 79% at 67% conversion of butanal). The catalytic activity of hierarchical zeolites consisting of beta particles and micro-mesoporous materials based on beta sol-precursor in the isomerization reaction of α-pinene oxide was tested (the yield of the desired product trans-carveol up to 42%). Application of such samples in the oxidation of furfural with hydrogen peroxide leads to the formation of 2(5H)furanone (yield up to 50%) and succinic acid (yield up to 35%) as the main C4 reaction products. It was found that the highest yield of γ-valerolactone (74% in 24 h) in the cascade conversion of furfural at atmospheric pressure and 117 °C is achieved over Zr-Al-USY zeolite (Zr/Al = 2.6) with the optimal ratio of Brønsted to Lewis acid sites (0,1), which is necessary for the reactions of conversion of furfural into 2-pentylfurfuryl ether and 2-pentylevulinate into γ-valerolactone with the participation of Lewis acid sites and conversion of 2-pentylfurfuryl ether into 2-pentylevulinate over Brønsted acid sites. Methods for obtaining hierarchical zeolites and their composites with adjustable strength and concentration of basic sites were developed and they were tested as catalysts in the reaction of epoxides with carbon dioxide with the formation of cyclic carbonates – precursors of environmentally friendly polymers. The highest yield (up to 98%) of the desired product is achieved over Cs-forms of hierarchical BEA zeolites, titanosilicate MTW zeolites and template-containing BEA with quenched Brønsted acid sites.
