Results and novelty. Myopia of the eyeball of experimental animals reduces the signs of retinal damage characteristic of type II diabetes. The identified changes are due to the stimulation of compensatory-restorative processes at the cellular and subcellular level in the vascular endothelium of the choroid, in the pigment epithelium and retinal nerve cells in diabetes with myopia. In rats with diabetes in combination with axial myopia, a decrease in energy metabolism, neurotrophic factor of the brain and a tendency to reduce the marker of apoptosis in the retina. Metabolic changes in diabetic retinopathy with myopia of the eyeball through compensatory mechanisms may to some extent help prevent the development of structural damage to the retina.
