The required level of impact strength of the intermediate layers metal of joint is provided only by their additional alloying with the optimal amount of titanium and boron. The study results of the effectiveness using a lot of technological techniques for multilayer welding of seams under flux are presented. Three regions of potentials, in which SCC of pipe steels in soil electrolyte occurs by different mechanisms has been established. The region of the mixed fracture mechanism, in which local anodic dissolution and hydrogen embrittlement occur simultaneously is: 10G2FB steel – from -0.75 V (s.c.e.) to -1.05 V; for 09G2S – from -0.85 V to -1.0 V; for 17G1S –from -0.8 V to -0.98 V. At more positive potentials the mechanism of local anodic dissolution proceeds, at more negative potentials – hydrogen cracking prevails. Electrolytic penetration of hydrogen into the above steels begin at -0.95 V. Methodology for determining the susceptibility of pipe steels to hydrogenation with cathodic polarization has been developed. The susceptibility to corrosion cracking of 17G1C steel and its high-frequency joint increases as the potential approaches to -1.05 V and above, for arc joint remains almost the same. The validity of the application of susceptibility to SCC coefficient KS, introduced for the base metal, to assess of welded joints is established. Reducing the polarization potential to -0.75 V promotes to preserve the protective properties of modern polymer coatings for main pipelines (combined, polyurethane and epoxy coating). Proposals for the selection and optimal application of different designs of the studied coatings have been developed. Proposals for the conditions of enter into a list of sheet S355J2 + N and S420NL steels in the table of the list of steels recommended by the standards of Ukraine for group A of oil storage tank designs have been developed.
