The aim of the work is to develop theoretical foundations for the creation of new and improvement of existing methods and means of measuring control and diagnostic parameters of power plant equipment to increase efficiency and extend service life. The results of research on the development of new and improvement of existing methods and measuring instruments of control and diagnostic parameters of the main equipment of power plants based on capacitive, optoelectronic, optical and magnetic primary converters are presented. The capacitive method of measuring the mechanical parameters of powerful generators – the air gap between the stator and rotor and the radial beating of the shafts - has been improved. New types of sensors and measuring transducers with higher metrological characteristics and functionality have been proposed and studied. The laser method of measuring distances using optical fibers as optical fibers has been improved. A new and simple optical sensor for monitoring air gaps in hydrogenerators is proposed. The principles of construction of electronic intelligent panel meters (IPM) control and diagnostic parameters of energy generating objects with a set of characteristics that significantly minimize the likelihood of errors by operators of switchboard control units of these objects. The concept of construction of IPM in which additional functional possibilities of such devices are formulated is developed.
