The temperature of initiation of thermal explosion depends not only on the rate of heating of the foil but also on its chemical composition, the period of alternation of layers and modes of pre-heat treatment. It is shown that the dependences due to the processes of diffusion interaction between the atoms of the components of the layers that occur in the foil during its manufacture and heating to the temperature of initiation of thermal explosion are established. Critical values of microstructural characteristics and heating rate are established, which ensure the implementation of the thermal explosion mode with the maximum intensity of heat generation. The possibility of initiating a thermal explosion when heated by radiation, heat exchange, the transmission of electric current, and by electromagnetic irradiation at ultrahigh frequencies has been shown experimentally for multilayer Al / Ni and Al / Ti foils made by electron beam deposition.
