In this work it is proposed to make a combined (composite) armor consisting of metal sheets with different physical and mechanical properties. In principle, such armor should consist of three layers: the first of armor steel, designed to crush and multiply thereby the contact area of ​​the penetrating element; the second is a plastic (high viscosity) metallic material that absorbs a large amount of kinetic energy of the penetrating element, taking into account its increased contact area; the third layer should consist of strong enough metal to hold the fragments of the penetrating element and the destroyed armor of the previous layers. For high-quality connection of three sheets at simultaneous explosion welding the mathematical method of calculation of welding parameters is developed that for the first time gives not recommended modes of welding, and are ready for practical application. Thanks to the calculation it was possible to save money and time for refinement experiments.The modes of hardening of a composite sheet after explosion welding are investigated, the modes at which the necessary strength of armor sheets is reached and at the same time plasticity of a soft layer remain are defined. The increase in armor resistance of composite plates in comparison with armor monolithic ones has been experimentally confirmed. In general, the work is research in nature, its results allow to solve specific problems of the Customer.
