The study goal – to reveal the diversity of approaches to understanding and comprehension of the past in the current socio-humanitarian knowledge, the place of historical science in the system of sciences about nature, society and man. Methodology. The methodological basis of the research was the principle of pluralization of scientific standards. The following specific scientific methods were used in the work: method of comparative-historical analysis to investigate ideas that emerged in the course of history development from propaedeutic to the present state; method of logical-theoretical analysis to study the internal structure of the key subsystems of modern studies of history; The method of logical-historical reconstruction as regards to clarification of principle positions of different subsystems for the purpose of their further integration; the method of synthetic reduction for the derivation of systemic components of a substantive subsystem.
