The purpose of the work is to study the peculiarities of structural changes and phase chemical analysis in powder tool steel K390 (manufactured by Buhler) during surface hardening with laser beam heating and the corresponding changes in the operational characteristics of the steel (hardness and tribological characteristics under dry friction). Research methods: optical microscopy, electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, X-ray structural analysis, microhardness measurement, tribological testing. The paper describes the change in the microstructure and phase composition of K390 tool steel during laser processing in different initial states (delivery state, heat treatment), shows the prospects of using this treatment to increase the durability of the stamping tool during cold stamping of high-strength sheet metal.
