Problematic issues related to solving the problem of ensuring information security as a key direction of the development of the information society and determining the main directions of legal provision of information security in Ukraine have been identified. The legislative definition of information is analysed, its shortcomings are given, and an approach to expanding this definition is proposed to distinguish the concepts of information as a phenomenon and as a legal category. In the course of the study, the most important problematic issues that arose in the legal regulation of relations in the field of information security at this stage of social life were identified and investigated. On the basis of the analysed material, conclusions are made that are appropriate for further reforming the legislative framework in Ukraine. The grounds for assigning information to an object of intellectual property with the distribution of the relevant legal regime to such information; information product with the extension to it of the legal regime of other objects of civil rights, taking into account the general signs of turnover and specific signs determined by special legislation on the information.
