Registration Date 25-12-2022 Organization Physico-Mechanical Institute named after GV Karpenko of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2  It was shown that the greater the strength of titanium, regardless of the technological parameters of its production, the higher the rate of dissolution in aqueous solutions of chloride and sulfate acids in a wide concentration range. It was confirmed that porosity is the main structural factor determining the corrosion resistance of titanium obtained by powder metallurgy. It was established that the addition of titanium hydride to the initial powder mixture, as well as the variety of technological parameters (reducing the size of the powder fraction and increasing the pressing pressure and sintering temperature), lead to a decrease in the residual porosity of titanium alloys and, consequently, to an increase in their corrosion strength. Correlation dependences between corrosion resistance, microstructure, and phase composition of titanium alloys produced by different technologies were revealed. It was shown that the corrosion resistance of the additively manufactured alloy is lower than that of the traditionally manufactured one. The decrease in the corrosion resistance of the additively manufactured alloy was explained by the presence in the microstructure of the titanium alloy of a larger amount of α-martensite and a smaller amount of the β-Ti phase than in the traditionally manufactured alloy. The electrochemical results show that the titanium alloy produced by the electron beam melting method had better corrosion resistance in 20% HCl solution at room temperature compared to the titanium alloy produced by the laser metal deposition method.
