The purpose - an assessment of the effects of natural and anthropogenic factors provoking the processes of deep transformation or degradation of ecosystems from the point of view of biological safety. Research methods – traditional zoological, ecological, and analytical approaches using standard methods of collection and processing of samples, methods of ultra-thin anatomy, extraction of parasite larval stages, molecular genetic research, light electron microscopy, field experimental methods involving GIS technologies and computer modeling. Within the scope of the research, a number of field, laboratory, and experimental studies were carried out in 6 directions (sections) with specific research objects and tasks. Using the model zoocenoses, various available and new data on the species composition (species diversity), structure, and the current risks of transformation of natural ecosystems of Ukraine were analyzed and summarized. Main factors and mechanisms of their influence on ecosystems (in particular, invasive alien animals) were outlined; the main features and trends of destabilization, simplification, degradation of biological balance in ecosystems were determined. Preliminary forecasts on the development and emergence of new biological threats were built; new approaches to scientifically based measures of biodiversity preservation and authenticity of the Ukrainian fauna structure were outlined. Priority measures for the prevention of the transformation/degradation of regional zoocenoses under climate change influence, press of invasive alien species were proposed. The results confirm the advantages of applied complex multidisciplinary approach to solve the modern problems of biological safety in Ukraine.
