Karazin Kharkiv National University popup.description2  The influence of electron irradiation on magnesium aluminum spinel single crystal and ceramics was studied. It was established that the efficiency of defect production depends on the crystallographic direction of single crystal growth. The sample that was grown in the <111> direction turned out to be the most resistant to the formation of defects. The averaged defect concentrations, produced in single crystals under the same conditions, are similar to the response of ceramics that does not have any specific crystallographic direction. It was determined that to restore radiation damage after electron irradiation, it is necessary to anneal the samples at temperatures above 1010 °K, while only 900 °K is sufficient to restore optical properties. It was established that cooling the samples with a metal radiator during irradiation duplicates the efficiency of producing optically active centers on anion lattice defects. The authors of the report published one monograph in the Springer publishing house, two textbooks, eight papers in journals indexed by the Scopus scientometric database.
