The purpose of the work – development the theoretical basis for obtaining a new class of functional binding materials for passive protection systems of nuclear power plants. Research methods – simplex-lattice experiment planning method; X-ray phase analysis; standard methods of testing physical and mechanical properties of binding materials; determination of the mass coefficient of gamma radiation absorption according to the method of A. Guinier; processing and analysis of the obtained results. The composition of calcium-barium-containing alumina cement was optimized by deriving the regression equation of the dependence of the mass coefficient of γ-radiation absorption on the composition and constructing the "composition-property" diagram. The process of phase formation in iron-containing clinkers was studied. New compositions of special cements based on aluminates and ferrites of calcium and barium have been developed, which, depending on the phase composition, are characterized by mechanical strength up to 60 MPa and mass coefficient of γ-radiation absorption up to 260 cm2/g. A laboratory batch of a special cement with an optimal composition was produced, which can be recommended for the production of radiation-resistant concrete with a high degree of protection against γ-radiation when exposed to high temperatures. The results obtained during the research were implemented in the practice of the educational process of the Department of Technology of Ceramics, Refractories, Glass and Enamels of NTU "KhPI".
