It is shown that at small angles of incidence, a large number of particles are deflected by an angle, which in absolute value is approximately twice the angle ϑ. The reason for this deflection is the reflection of particles from atomic planes and capture of particles in the mode of planar channeling. It is shown that for positively charged particles, this mechanism allows splitting the beam into two parts almost equal in number of particles. Beam splitting also occurs for negatively charged particles, but only a small part of the beam particles is deflected. We also investigated the possibility of expanding the possible location of goniometers with bent crystals on the main ring of the LHC, namely in front of the IR3 pulse cleaning section. In contrast to the previously considered options of locating near the large LHCb and ALICE detectors, this choice provides more freedom regarding the variation of the bent crystal parameters and the possibility of implementing a two-crystal scheme, which can provide a unique opportunity to measure the electromagnetic dipole moments of short-lived particles such as charmed baryons or tau-leptons, at the LHC accelerator. In addition, it is shown that shell corrections in the differential scattering cross section of a fast charged particle on an atom are significant at moderate momentum transfers, where they are determined by intermediate shells and regularly oscillate with the value of the nuclear charge. When applied to multiple Coulomb scattering in thick targets, shell corrections to the Molière shielding angle are shown to arise from both inner and outer shells, commensurately, and their effects combine.
