A low-temperature plasma on the helium-tellurium and argon-tellurium mixture excited by a barrier discharge of atmospheric pressure was obtained for the first time; its emission and time characteristics were investigated. The parameters of the discharge were determined: the current did not exceed 0.5 A, the voltage applied to the rectifier is up to 10 kV, the excitation frequency of the gas discharge plasma is up to 10 kHz. The spectral composition of the low-temperature plasma radiation in the wavelength range of 200–1000 nm was studied. It was established that the emission of the B→X and A→X bands of the dimmers dominates in the spectrum at the inert gas pressure of ~ 300 Torr and strongly depends on the content of chalcogen vapor in the mixture (about 1%). Numerical modeling was performed using a kinetic 1-D model of plasma-chemical reactions in a gas discharge. It was established that the formation of excited tellurium molecules and atoms occurs mainly due to the processes of energy transfer from metastable atoms of the inert helium gas to tellurium molecules and atoms. The design of a gas-discharge barrier emitter based on selenium vapor has been developed.
