The subject of research is the creation and determination of the breeding value of varieties and hybrids of soft winter wheat based on a complex of plant productivity traits and its structural elements, in systematic diallel crossings, and collection samples. Wheat samples from the collections of the National Center of Plant Genetic Resources of Ukraine and other scientific institutions were studied; a new starting material for wheat selection in the conditions of Ukraine was created; the selection scheme and methods have been improved in accordance with production requests and environmental conditions, which are constantly changing. In contrast to known researches, the biological and breeding features of soft winter wheat varieties of various scientific origins from domestic and foreign institutions were first comprehensively established with different levels of meteorological conditions, based on significant differences in the levels of manifestation of indicators of quantitative signs of productivity and its structural elements. In the studies, the level of stability, plasticity and selection value of varieties in different conditions of the growing seasons was clarified. Presented varieties: Smuglyanka, Novosmuglyanka (IFRG NAAU) Yuzovska, Igrista, Divo Donetske (DDSDS), Spivanka, Komertsiyna, Korysna (DDAEU), Yed-nist (SHI-NCNS) have a sum of ranks of two, and the varieties Podolyanka, Hoduvalnytsia, Bohdana ( IFRG NAAU), Victory, Goddess (DDSDS) - rank three, which indicates their high plasticity, due to the stability of the realization of the harvest potential and their greater adaptability to growing conditions in the northern subzone of the Steppe of Ukraine.
