LM Litvinenko of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2  The research object is carbon materials prepared by a combination of coals intercalation with Brønsted acids and thermal shock. The purpose of the work is to establish the regularities of forming the structure and porosity of solid products under thermal shock of coal intercalated with Brønsted acid anions. Research methods: elemental analyses, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry, IR spectroscopy, low-temperature nitrogen adsorption. For the first time, the structure and adsorption properties of porous materials (PM) obtained by thermal shock of coal intercalated with NO3‾, HSO4‾, CH3COO‾ and BF4‾ anions were investigated. Intercalation of anions is accompanied by an increase in the coal weight (up to 50%), swelling, disordering of "crystallites", opening of graphene cycles, formation of ion pairs and O-, N-, F-containing groups. It was found that the new structural centers are destroyed up to 400°С with the formation of volatile compounds (yield up to 60%). The combination of coal intercalation and thermal shock (800°С and 1000°С) was established to form carbonizates with a specific surface that depends on the nature of the intercalant and varies within 50-460 m2/g (for 800°С) and 58-731 m2/g (for 1000°С). The maximum surface area is for coal with BF4‾-anions. It forms a microporous material with a micropore surface area of 95.3%. Microporous materials with a specific surface area of up to 2035 m2/g were obtained by additional introduction of alkaline activation with thermal shock. Their porous structure and adsorption properties in relation to elemental iodine, methylene blue dye, phenol and lead cations were investigated. Product Description popup.authors Efimova Irina V.
