The work was carried out on a large LHD stellarator type installation (Japan). Previous studies demonstrate the production of low-density plasma at low power levels. Experiments with higher powers become possible after the introduction of programmable RF power build-up at the front of the RF pulse. Thanks to this technique, all pulses passed with the voltage on the antenna in a safe range. Increasing the power of the RF pulse predictably leads to an increase in the density of the generated plasma. Without prior ionization, it was possible to achieve a plasma density of 6×1018 cm-3, which is 6 times more than in previous experiments. At the same time, the electron temperature was not high. The plasma density is too low to provide good conditions for efficient plasma heating. For comparison, radio frequency heating of a high-density cold plasma created using ECRN was performed. Both electrons and ions have been heated to high temperatures and this plasma state is maintained. The connection between the antenna and the plasma was significantly improved, which allowed to obtain a higher heating power at a low voltage on the antenna. From all this, it can be concluded that the task of increasing the plasma density from the achieved value to the representative one for LHD can open the way to using ICRN to obtain and heat plasma during one shot.   Product Description popup.authors Harkusha Ihor Ye.
