Heating in the magnetic shore mode is effective for plasmas with a flattened rectangular density profile. For non-flat profiles, the value of the plasma density is limited by the upper and lower limits. These limits prevent the use of this heating in large devices. In small devices with compact antennas, the excitation of Alfvén resonance plays a significant role in this heating scheme. Numerical calculations showed that in an open reactor-scale trap, sloshing deuterium ions can be heated by additive heating, and tritium ions by second-harmonic heating.
