The purpose of scientific research was to determine the hydrogeological and geochemical conditions that are favorable for the isolating and retaining function as a system of natural barriers of a deep geological repository of RW. Research methods - analysis and generalization of source materials, expert assessments, filtration and thermodynamic modeling, safety assessments. The theoretical data on the processes of mobilization, migration and fixation of radionuclides in the geological and hydrogeological conditions of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone (Zhovtneva Perspektivnaya Square) were considered and summarized. Multivariate filtration-transport and thermodynamic modeling was performed. The influence of hydrogeological and hydrogeochemical changes in the system of natural barriers on the safety of the geological repository was assessed.
