Registration Date 21-01-2023 Organization State Institution "National Research Centre For Radiation Medicine of National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine" popup.description2  The object of the study is 679 children:30 patients with acute leukemia (AL); 649 children without oncohematological pathology (373 children-residents of radioactively contaminated areas (RCA), 306 children-residents of conditionally "clean" areas). The purpose of the work is to assess the state of the stromal-hemopoietic complex, hormonal regulation and iron metabolism in children with AL and children with osteopenia and osteoporosis, residents of the RCA,after the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Research methods are cytological, biochemical, biophysical, immunological, dosimetric, statistical. Dat on the state of the stromal microenvironment, hematopoiesis, hormonal regulation depending on iron metabolism in children were obtained for the first time. Children's radiation doses did not affect osteon indicators and iron metabolism and amounted to (1,51±0,09) mSv. A direct relationship between the remains of nucleoli in the nucleus of monocytes and the annual radiation dose was established. Patients with AL were diagnosed with disorders of ferrokinetic processes, stromal fibroblast function, changes in collagen formation, amino acid composition of urine, bone metabolism and bone density (BD).The higher the serum iron (SI),the greater the number of iron deposits in the sideroblasts of the bone marrow. A the level of serum ferritin above 500 ng/ml,children had an unfavorable course of the disease. 16,7% of patients with AL had changes in the thyroid system. In children without oncohematological pathology,an inverse relationship was established between the level of alkaline phosphatase (AL) and BD;direct relationship between serum creatinine and BD. The negative effect of iron on the structure of the musculoskeletal system has been proven. Childre with osteopenia are characterized by bone fractures, increased levels of SI and pituitary thyroid-stimulating hormone. Children with osteoporosis have bone fractures, higher levels of SІ, AF,cortisol and calcium deficiency.
