The object of the research is the process of fire spreading on roofs under external fire influence. The subject of the study is the effect on the process of fire propagation on roofs under conditions of fire exposure and properties of roofing materials. The main issues that were investigated and analyzed: regulatory documents and other sources of information regarding the fire safety research of roofs and roofing materials, their evaluation criteria, test methods and sources of ignition, which are implemented in international, regional and national standards. The equipment for testing roofs for resistance to external fire exposure according to the European method was created and its verification was carried out. Designs of roofs, which are widely used on construction sites in Ukraine, and the selection of the main roofs for testing roofs for resistance to external fire exposure according to the European method have been determined; testing of roofs was carried out on the created equipment according to the European method, as well as according to national methods.
