The proposed project covers identification and assessment of resource-efficient methods for metallurgical recovery of metals and graphite. The project focuses on black mass treatment from spent Li-ion batteries including improving the physicochemical properties of black mass through the mechanical activation followed by thermal treatment, refining to recover its metals content. Environmental, economical and social benefits: CO2 mitigation (improving the recovery process of components from spent lithium-ion batteries will reduce the environmental impact, reduce the risk of the spread and accumulation of these substances in the environment), decrease the dependency on virgin raw materials, decrease the need for landfilling and recovering the high cost contained materials, as well as it will allow creating new jobs in the recycling of lithium-ion batteries sphere are expected. The scientific and practical results, and the knowledge gained within this project are to positively impact on the development of the Li-ion batteries application and their recycling both globally and within Ukraine.
