An effective system of social protection adequate to the market environment has not yet been created, but the need for its services is objectively growing. This was the result of complex socio-economic processes, accompanied by the growth of unemployment, impoverishment of significant sections of the population, significant social stratification, reduction of life expectancy and a drop in population growth rates, which ultimately led to significant losses in the quality of human resources. The object of the study is a set of socio-economic relations that arise in the process of social security of the population of Ukraine, taking into account the peculiarities of globalization changes. The subject of the research is the conditions, features, trends of creating an effective social security system in the conditions of globalization. The purpose of the research is to analyze the problems of formation, development and functioning of modern social protection systems in the conditions of economic globalization. To realize the specified goal, the following research questions were revealed: the essence of social protection as an economic category was revealed; the main models of social protection systems existing in the world were studied; modern trends in the development of social protection systems in the conditions of globalization of the economic space are established; the main mechanisms of state regulation in the field of social protection and its features in the conditions of economic globalization were investigated; the interrelationships and interdependencies of social protection with other macroeconomic problems are established.
