The purpose of the work is to conduct complex experimental studies of conductivity and luminescence of ZnSe crystals to determine the possibility of their use as ionizing radiation detectors. The research methods are X-ray conductivity and X-ray luminescence, phosphorescence and conduction current relaxation, thermally stimulated conductivity and luminescence and their dose dependence at different intensities of X-ray excitation. The main feature of the luminescence center with a general maximum at 630 nm is that when comparing 1) the steady-state luminescence intensities of the 630 and 970 nm bands, the steady-state current of X-ray conductivity; with 2) phosphorescence intensity and conductivity relaxation current at different moments of time after excitation; and with 3) intensities of thermally stimulated luminescence and thermally stimulated conductivity current; it was established that the stationary intensity of the 630 nm band at 85 K is ten times higher than it should be. This phenomenon was explained by the presence of a luminescence band of ~630 nm in the X-ray luminescence spectrum, which is absent in the spectra of phosphorescence and thermally stimulated luminescence. This can be explained only by the fact that the luminescence of one of the two elementary bands for 630 nm is caused by the hole recombination mechanism (recombination of a free hole with an electron localized at the center of the luminescence). The 630 nm band was divided into components using the Alentsev-Fock method. This method allows determining the spectral positions of the elementary bands and analyzing their spectral shapes. The components of the distribution are well described by Gaussians. The spectral positions of the components and their halfwidths are the same in RL and FL.
