The most common infection was caused by Blastocystis sp. (16.4%), less frequently D. fragilis (5.2%) and G. lamblia (3.9%). Mixed invasion was detected in 12.0% of SF contaminated with protozoa. It was established that the frequency detection of Blastocystis sp. in FS from symptomatic persons (21.7%) significantly exceeds this indicator for SF from asymptomatic individuals (4.0%). A new version of the method of permanent staining of fecal smears according to Field, which is less expensive and labor-intensive, technologically simple and fast has been developed, which provides a sufficient level of microscopic visualization of the identification features of all 3 parasites species. It has been proven that the cultural method is superior to the microscopic one in terms of the sensitivity of detection of Blastocystis sp. in SF by 20.6% and is characterized by a much higher level of specificity of about 100%. The distinct growth profiles of Blastocystis sp. have been described on mJones's, mLE, RPMI, IMDMEM and RPMI/IMDMEM media. It has been proven that the signs of virulent Blastocystis sp. strains should be considered: level of formation of in vitro amoeboid forms (PAF, %)>10% and protease activity>30 azocasein units. The PAF definition is recommended for use in medical practice to assess the virulent potential of clinical strains. For the first time in Ukraine, the method of manufacturing complete cellular antigens of Blastocystis sp. to determine the titers of antibodies against the pathogen in blood serum in indirect immunofluorescence reaction. Іn vitro sensitivity of strains of Blastocystis sp. to 10 antimicrobial agents was studied. It has been proven that co-trimoxazole, alcohol hop extract and benzimidazole lipoic acid have a stronger inhibitory and lethal effect on Blastocystis sp. than metronidazole.
