Pisarzhevskii Institute Of Physical Chemistry of The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2 It has been established that the acceleration of the key step of heterogeneous-catalytic processes of obtaining 1,3-butadiene and 1-butanol from ethanol, aldol condensation of acetaldehyde can be achieved by modifying oxide catalysts by compounds of rare earth elements. The introduction of a modifying additive Y (III) to the Mg-Al oxide catalyst at the stage of hydrotalcite synthesis and a decrease in maturation time of the mother liquor after the coprecipitation provides 24 % of the yield of 1-butanol in the process of ethanol gas-phase condensation. With the modification of Zn-MgSi oxide systems by alkali metals (Na, K), the selectivity of 1,3-butadiene (at >400°C) is achieved by reducing the formation of by-products. The alkali metals, as part of Zn-Zrsi oxide systems, cause a decrease in the selectivity to ethene and diethyl ether, due to a decrease in the content of strong acidic sites, which accelerate the side reaction of ethanol dehydration.
