The object of research is the process of pollution of the natural environment by chemical substances. The purpose of the work is to develop a mechanism for comprehensive assessment of the level of environmental pollution by chemical substances, to provide a management and control system for the state of the environment with modern and high-quality means of obtaining measurement information on the content of chemical pollutants in environmental objects. The paper analyzes the current state of the issue of ensuring the chemical safety of the population and the natural environment.A review of the Ukrainian and European legal framework regarding the assessment and control of the level of pollution by chemical substances in various areas of the environment was carried out. A scientific analysis of the main methodical approaches to assessing the level of pollution of the natural environment by chemical substances of various environmental spheres was carried out.
