The subject of the study is the peculiarities of the process of formation of civil society in Czechoslovakia during the "Prague Spring" period. The purpose of the research work is to reproduce a complete picture of social processes in Czechoslovakia in 1968-1972 in the conditions of the crisis of the communist system based on the study, systematization and scientific analysis of all available sources. Research task: analysis of world historiography devoted to the Czechoslovak events of 1968-1972; elucidation of the features of the intellectual training of the democratic movement of 1967-1968; determination of the specifics of the formation of elements of civil society in the conditions of regime liberalization; coverage of the regional dimension of the democratization process: from federalization to national and cultural autonomy; assessment of the restoration of the bureaucratic-centralist system; characteristics of the anti-totalitarian movement of 1968-1972. Research methods: When solving the tasks set during the research, the authors followed the principles of historicism, objectivity, and pluralism, which involve clarifying the conditions of occurrence, development, and consequences of events, as well as understanding their cause-and-effect relationship. Of the special-historical research methods, the historical-analytical method was used (to study and evaluate the program documents of the "Prague Spring" and the anti-totalitarian movement, the theoretical and literary heritage of their figures), the historical-comparative method (to identify the features of various currents of social/social movements, showing what is common and what is different between them).
