Bakul Institute of superhard material of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2 The scientific and technical principles to obtain superhard materials of diamond-Fe3C, diamond-Fe3N, diamond-FeCO3, diamond-TiNi3 systems high pressure (8.0-8.3 GPa) and high temperature (1750-1950°C) have been developed. After thermobaric sintering, all mentioned above composites, with the exception of the diamond-TiNi3 system, have Knoop microhardness of 55-63 GPa, diametrical compressive strength of 0.61-0.75 GPa, Young's modulus of 810-935 GPa, and demonstrate high or at least, no worse wear resistance during intermittent turning of granite compared to ATP used in the drilling tools. The influence of nano-VN additives on the structure and mechanical properties of KAM based on the 51Fe–32Cu–9Ni–8Sn matrix, formed by cold pressing followed by vacuum hot pressing, has been investigated. It was found, that due to the reduction of the average grain size, the formation of a dense diamond-matrix contact, the formation of V, Fe, Ni and Cu inclusions on the surface of diamond grains and the change of the phase composition, the properties of the CAM with 8% nano-VN content have improved to the maximum.
