Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2  It was established that EKE with desmoplasia was characterized by a high content of CXCL12+-, HGF+- and c-MET+-fibroblasts, a lower number of CD163+-macrophages, and metastases were determined in 71.4% of patients with such tumors. An increase (2-fold) in the expression of the chemokine receptor CXCR4 and a decrease in its ligand CXCL12 were shown compared to these indicators in EСE patients without metastases. A panel of highly significant indicators (CXCL12low- and CXCR4high-tumor cells and CXCL12high- and HGFhigh-fibroblasts) was identified, which allows stratifying patients according to the risk of tumor progression. It was established that the desmoplastic variant of the stromal microenvironment of EСE is associated with invasiveness and the presence of metastases. Thus, the additive effect of the molecular biological indicators of the epithelial and stromal components of EСE causes different degrees of malignancy of the tumor process.
