The object of research is the thermal regime in Ukraine. The research subjects are sudden changes in air temperature (SCT), heat waves (HW), and cold waves (CW) over the territory of Ukraine. Quantitative criteria for HW, CW and SCT were determined, which reflect the degree of intensity of warming and cooling in the country. The spatio-temporal patterns of the frequency and intensity of HW, CW and SCT in Ukraine, their regional and seasonal features in 1981-2020 have been established. Trends in the frequency and intensity of HW, CW and SCT within different time scales, including season and year, in 1981-2020 on the territory of Ukraine as a whole and in each region were revealed. The regions where the most significant changes in these phenomena occur and the seasons when they are observed were specified. The influence of macro-scale atmospheric processes, in particular, El Nino and the Southern Oscillation (ENSO), North Atlantic oscillation (NAO), Arctic oscillation (AO) and blocking processes on the frequency and intensity of sudden changes in air temperature, heat and cold waves in Ukraine was determined.Based on the data of 14 regional climate models, an ensemble forecast of projection of changes in the frequency and intensity of HW, CW and SCT for the medium and long term (2021-2040, 2041-2060, 2081-2100) relative to 1991-2010 for RCP4 and RCP 8.5 scenarios was constructed. The most vulnerable regions, where these phenomena can cause significant risks to people's livelihoods, and the sustainable operation of economic sectors, were identified. An electronic atlas " Heat Waves. Cold waves. Sudden temperature changes " has been created. It includes more than 600 thematic maps that reflect the regional and seasonal features of these phenomena in Ukraine, their changes during 1981-2020, and probable changes in the short-, medium-, and long-term under the RCP4.5 and   Product Description popup.authors popup.nrat_date 2023-02-14 Close
