The purpose of the research is to develop the scientific principles of using pulsed electromagnetic force action on electrically conductive media to transform their mechanical characteristics and impulse barrier discharge of the surface of a conductive liquid, optimization of the technology of direct water purification with such a discharge. A study of a pulsed barrier discharge on the surface of water, which moves in the discharge gap in the form of a thin film (≈0.15 mm), droplets with a diameter of 1−1.7 mm and in the form of an aerosol under on the voltage pulses of duration ≈100 ns and a repetition frequency of 10 -500 Hz. The conditions for the existence of such a discharge in a spatially uniform form have been determined. On the example of processing a model solution of methylene blue with a concentration in water of up to 100 mg/l, it is shown that the discharge has the highest energy efficiency in the case when water moves in the form of submillimeter-sized droplets. Under such conditions, the energy output of the discharge at a 90% degree of impurity decomposition reaches ≈60g/kWh. The mechanism of decomposition of methylene blue and the influence of various factors on it are considered.
