In order to assess the characteristics of the prevailing traveling ionospheric disturbances (TID) (periods, amplitudes and phase relationships for a number of ionospheric parameters, phase and group velocities, wavelengths), as well as the frequency (periodic) and spatial TID spectra, a joint statistical, spectral and cross-correlation analysis of incoherent scatter and GPS data was performed. Data from the global network of ionosondes, tweak-atmospheric receivers, and other ground-based and space-borne facilities were used to identify the sources of TID generation. The characteristics of atmospheric waves and ionospheric disturbances occurring during a solar eclipse, the passage of the solar terminator, sudden stratospheric warming, and geomagnetic disturbances and storms were evaluated. The background characteristics of the ionosphere, which affect the distance of wave propagation in the atmosphere and ionosphere, are estimated. The developed and improved devices and methods that allow to increase the accuracy of detection and estimation of TID parameters are described.
