Based on the analysis of existing processes for the manufacture of small arms (SA) barrels, a block diagram of an integrated technological process for manufacturing a SA barrel with a polygonal bore surface by cold plastic deformation by crimping the barrel blank over a profiled mandrel is proposed. A classification of technological schemes for the implementation of the load during cold plastic deformation by crimping the shaft blanks along the mandrel is made. The fundamental difference between compression in roller pairs of rolling and compression in strikers is shown. Their advantages and disadvantages are determined. To study and refine the technological processes for manufacturing SA barrels with a polygonal channel surface, experimental installations have been developed that implement promising load patterns. Typical designs of mandrels for fixing a barrel billet for two methods of shaping the polygonal inner surface of the barrel have been developed: for all-round crimping of the barrel billet during shaping in strikers (without axial elongation) and crimping in rollers on an installation with drive rollers. It is shown that the plastically deformed zone along the thickness of the workpiece will be equal to the thickness of the workpiece if the gap between the workpiece and the mandrel is greater than 0.25…0.30 mm.
