In the research work, the influence of the characteristics of the modification process on the microhardness, phase composition, wear resistance and fatigue strength of nitrided surfaces was investigated. The research was carried out on samples made of titanium alloy VT1-0 with a nitrided surface layer. Vacuum ion nitriding in the pulse mode of titanium alloys allows to significantly improve the tribological characteristics of the "titanium-titanium" sliding friction pair due to the antifriction properties of nitrogen and its compounds with titanium, while preserving the original mechanical properties of the base material. The abrasive wear resistance of titanium alloys after nitriding is higher than that of non-nitrided friction pairs. The nitride zone with the optimal phase ratio has the highest wear resistance and the lowest intensity of wear. A calculation-experimental method for determining the fatigue strength of test samples made of titanium alloys under high-frequency loading, depending on the parameters of the process of modification by vacuum ion nitriding in the pulse mode, has been developed. Considering its proven performance and theoretical validity, it is quite suitable for researching the fatigue strength of thin-sheet titanium materials depending on the influence of physical, mechanical and technological factors, including surface modification.
