Mechnikov National University popup.description2  In 2020 – 2021 the latest new experimental data on the state and biodiversity of ichthyofauna, zooplankton, macrozoobenthos, phytoplankton and bacterioplankton, as well as on the peculiarities of the meteorological and hydrological-hydrochemical regime and the quality of coastal waters, were obtained in the area of Zmiinyi Island. The collection and analysis of primary information on the current state of the main characteristics of the marine ecosystem of the coastal waters of Zmiinyi Island for 2004-2021 was carried out at the unique marine research station "Zmiinyi Island". The existing international and national databases on the main abiotic characteristics of the water environment of the Black Sea were analyzed. For the first time, a data collection technique was developed, tested and implemented for the analysis of long-term changes in abiotic characteristics and hydrobiological indicators of the state of marine ecosystems in certain areas of the north-western part of the Black Sea. An analysis of modern cross-border ecological and other risks of influence of the Black Sea countries - Ukraine's neighbours in the Black Sea was performed. Recommendations for the concept of the future post-war targeted scientific and technical program for the restoration of scientific marine research and research infrastructure of Ukraine were developed, and practical recommendations were provided for regional authorities regarding the inclusion of the Zmiinyi Island district in the international Emerald Network.
