It has been proved that residual austenite in high-strength cast irons with nodular graphite is a useful structural component. During operation, austenite transforms into martensite. This results in the strengthening of the most stressed areas of the parts. Several technologies for producing residual austenite in high-strength cast irons have been proposed. The most rational hydrogen technology is the preparation of iron ore raw materials to obtain DRI pellets, their metallization in mine furnaces, and steel smelting in electric furnaces. In order to reduce CO2 emissions into the surrounding space, the gas for the recovery and metallization of pellets should contain as little carbon oxide as possible.
