It is shown that the dependence of the heat capacity on the field has a strong influence on the giant magnetocaloric effect (GEM), which is inherent in solids undergoing phase transitions accompanied by a strong change in the magnitude of magnetization: neglecting this dependence leads to a noticeable overestimation of the adiabatic temperature change, which is practically important characteristic of MKE. The temperature change that characterizes the giant FEM observed in Fe-Rh alloys is calculated. A good agreement between the available experimental data and the obtained theoretical results is shown.
