The object of research is the marine ecosystem within the territorial waters of Ukraine of the Black Sea and Azov Sea. The purpose of the work is to assess the state of the Black and Azov Seas in 2021, the trends of its changes. Research methods – analysis by traditional methods of analytical data generalization and statistical analysis of survey observations, cartographic analysis of satellite data. Based on the historical and current data set of hydrophysical, hydrochemical, hydrobiological observations and satellite data, the state of the Black Sea and Azov Sea ecosystems in 2021 was assessed. The current state of eutrophication of shelf waters and related environmental hazards is considered. An assessment of pollution of the marine environment by toxic chemical compounds is given. The assessment of the state of hydrobionts (phyto- and zooplankton, meio- and macrozoobenthos), as well as the assessment of the ecological state of certain areas of the Azov-Black Sea basin by bioindication and biotesting methods is presented. The trends of changes in the ecological state of marine ecosystems in recent years are established. Information is provided on the state and prospects for the development of the nature reserve fund in the Black and Azov Seas, as well as on measures to improve the ecological state of the Azov-Black Sea basin.
