Currently, a dynamic competitive environment is being formed, in which the key determinants of enterprise success are shifting to the ability to rapidly adapt to changes in the digital economy, where the main resource of competitiveness is the continuous generation of innovations. Instead, Ukrainian railway transport enterprises have been operating for a long time without taking into account market transformations in the country's economy and transport sector. Ignoring the role of competitive advantages in ensuring the effectiveness of production and economic activities of railway enterprises has led to the loss of their competitive position in the domestic and international transportation market. Poor quality of transport services due to technical and technological backwardness as a result of disruption of reproduction processes in the railway industry and inability to adapt to the requirements of the digitalized transport and logistics market cause further decline in the competitiveness of railway transport enterprises. In the context of a radical transformation of the business environment, in order to ensure a sustainable competitive position in the transportation market, railway transport enterprises need to implement innovations quickly and systematically, improve the quality of business processes and increase the level of digital maturity of enterprises in the industry. The features of the transformation of the competitive environment of railway transport enterprises are studied, the stages of evolution of the development of competition theory are revealed and the key provisions of the modern theory of network intellectual and information competition are substantiated.
