The purpose of this project is to develop the scientific basis for the creation of bioethanol conversion catalysts for promising autonomous energy supply systems based on hydrogen and fuel cells based on renewable sources of raw materials. A preparation method was developed and tableted samples of ferrospinel catalyst for hydrogen synthesis from bioethanol were produced. The stability of indicators of steam reforming of bioethanol during 40 hours was clarified. Using the methods of X-ray phase analysis, thermogravimetry and temperature-programmed reduction, the thermal and chemical stability of the active phase of the catalyst was determined. The operating modes of the catalyst in model mixtures with an ethanol content of 14-30% have been worked out. A general rule of thermodynamics of steam reforming of alcohols was found, which consists in the fact that with the same carbon content in the initial alcohol-water mixture, the equilibrium composition of the reaction mixture is completely the same for all alcohols at the same temperature of the process. The obtained result indicates the same efficiency of the process of steam reforming of alcohols under the same conditions, which allows the use of various water-alcohol mixtures, without their purification, to obtain hydrogen. Calculations of external diffusion and internal diffusion limitations of the course of steam reforming of bioethanol on a ferrospinel catalyst, which are important for the design of a portable hydrogen generator, were carried out.
