The purpose of the research work is to clarify the scientific and methodological and develop practical recommendations for improving the assessment of the effectiveness of real investment projects, the development of effective methods of risk management of investment projects. Methods of work - monographic, comparison, analysis and synthesis, induction, deduction, graphic, calculation, design, chain substitutions, strategic analysis, formalization, analogy and others. The scientific novelty of the obtained results lies in the theoretical substantiation and practical solution of a complex of issues related to improving the efficiency of real investment projects, in particular: an approach to understanding the essence of investments is proposed, which is proposed to consider any transformation of capital into material, monetary or other forms with the aim of receiving benefits (expanding consumption opportunities), or achieving a social effect in the future; the concept of "investment project" has been clarified based on the economic content of investments; the current classification of investments has been expanded.
