The developed classification of the main coal seams of the Pavlohrad-Petropavlivka geological and industrial district according to the content of toxic and potentially toxic elements allows for long-term planning of measures aimed at reducing toxic and potentially toxic elements in coal mining products. It was found that the sulfide fraction is represented mainly by epigenetic and syngenetic pyrite. Affinity series: Hg, As >> Pb , Ni, Co > V, Cr, Mn, F >> Be. The average content of Hg is 6.7 and As is 4.2 times higher in epigenetic pyrite than in syngenetic pyrite. The cross-section of the seams clearly shows the enrichment of Hg and As in syngenetic pyrite in the areas adjacent to its boundaries. The silicate fraction is mainly composed of inclusions of sandy-clay rocks, aggregates of clay minerals and hydromica. Affinity series: F >> V, Mn > Cr, Pb, Hg, Ni, Co, As >> Be. A significant increase in the content of all toxic and potentially toxic elements was noted in the silicate syngenetic fraction from near-contact zones, with the exception of Be. In the silicate epigenetic fraction, the  content of all toxic and potentially toxic elements (especially Hg) increases noticeably, with the exception of Be. F and Cr are mainly associated with the silicate fraction of the mineral part of coal seams. The carbonate fraction consists mainly of calcite. Affinity series: Mn >> F > Pb, Ni, V, Hg, Co, Cr, As >> Be. A significant increase in the content of Mn, F, V, Ni, Co, and Pb is observed in the section of seams in the carbonate syngenetic fraction in the areas adjacent to the contact zones.
