The subject of the study: varieties and hybrids of domestic selection of tobacco of the Krupnolisty, Burley, Virginia and American variety types; collection samples of foreign selection of the gene pool of the tobacco department. The goal of the project: to identify selectively attractive genotypes of tobacco from the collection of the world gene pool. Create raw material with an optimal combination of yield, resistance to a complex of pathogens and environmental stressors, stability of quality indicators of tobacco raw materials. Research methods: field, laboratory, breeding, immunological, statistical. Theoretical and practical results: A promising initial breeding material of tobacco with a high level of adaptation to stressful conditions of abiotic and biotic origin was selected. Reference varieties and donors of valuable economic and biological traits were determined: Virginia 423, Ternopilsky 14, Berley 46, Ukrainsky Novy, Podilsky 23, Berley 38 and Zhovtolisty 36. In the National Center of Plant Genetic Resources of Ukraine, the variety Virginia 423 (No. UF2801644) is registered for valuable economic and biological traits of the Virginia type (Certificate of registration of a sample of the gene pool of plants in Ukraine No. 2409 dated 07.12.2022). Based on the results of research in 2022, an analytical note on hybrid and apomictic material, standard varieties, sources and donors of tobacco traits was prepared. Prospective samples of tobacco in apomictic and hybrid nurseries of the older generation, which are characterized by high economic and valuable traits, stability of biotic and abiotic factors, were selected.
