Pisarzhevskii Institute Of Physical Chemistry of The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2  The aim of the work was to create new materials based on coordination compounds of lanthanides with high quantum yields of luminescence and purity of emitted radiation for light-emitting diodes (LED), fluorescent oil markers, as well as nanocomposite metal-nitrogen-carbon (Co-N-C, Fe-N-C) electrocatalysts of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), which do not contain noble metals, for low-temperature fuel cells. Research methods – elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, IR, electron, luminescence and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray phase analysis, scanning electron microscopy, cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, method of a rotating disk electrode with a ring. A series of Eu3+ and Tb3+ complexes with anions of fatty carboxylic acids and with tris(2-pyridyl)pyrazolylborate were synthesized. It is shown that the obtained compounds exhibit intense metal-centered photo- and electroluminescence. It was found that the above-mentioned complexes, as well as (Tp2Ln)2tae compounds, can be considered potential markers for fuel and oils. The possibility of using a number of tris(pyrazolyl)borate complexes of Co (II) and Fe (II) as precursors for obtaining Co-N-C and Fe-N-C nanocomposites - platinum-free electrocatalysts of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is shown. It was established that the obtained Co-containing electrocatalysts ensure the course of ORR mainly by the 4-electron mechanism, are characterized by a high half-wave potential and a low Tafel slope, as well as high long-term stability in the process of functioning. New materials based on lanthanide coordination compounds developed in the course of the National Research and Development Program can find practical application as luminescent materials for marking fuel and in the creation of LEDs, and nanocomposite platinum-free ORR electrocatalysts - in low-temperature fuel cells and metal-air current sources.
